Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas, creative friends!  It's my pleasure to bring you a layout that I created for this week's brilliant sketch challenge at Sketches In Thyme.

Since it's Christmas Day, I thought a Christmas layout would be appropriate.  This photo was taken last year, while we decorated our Christmas tree.  This was the year that my son had a huge growth spurt and you can see how he has to lean down to hug his sister.

I used a lot of sparkling embellishments in my layout.  The gold doilies are especially shiny, but the photo does not do them justice. I also added a sparkling, red washi tape, red sequins, and outlined a few ornaments in the background paper with Stickles.  The papers were a hodgepodge of papers I had in my stash.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I hope your Christmas was full of joy, friends, and family.  Take care!

Paper Snowflakes

Hello crafters! Today I am sharing a beautiful craft project I came across on Pinterest.

These snowflakes are super easy to make.  All you need is paper (I used inexpensive printer paper), scissors, and scotch tape.  I made about 8 of these in just a couple hours.  They are really big, really pretty, and look amazing when hung from the ceiling.  Here is where to find the quick two-minute tutorial: http://howdoesshe.com/how-to-make-a-3-d-paper-snowflake/

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Sonshine

Good morning, friends!  Today I have a layout of a weekend trip I took with my son to Rankin Ranch.  The dude ranch is a real working cattle ranch and has a special place in my heart, as my grandparents took me there when I was 11.  It was so great to be able to take my son there to enjoy the horseback riding, walks, pool, archery, ping pong, and daily entertainment at night. My favorite part was that the ranch is a bit isolated and there is no internet connection available. This made us unplug and be present during the weekend.

I created my layout for the December Scrap Our Stash sketch challenge.  I choose gold, stars, and flair for my elements. The beautiful vellum quote is from Quick Quotes.  It reads, "You have a wonderful free SPIRIT and my life has been BLESSED to have had the JOY of sharing it with you.  As you choose the PATH on your life's JOURNEY I wish you happy TRAILS... and I always WISH you unending SUCCESS."

Quick and Easy Holiday Card

Hello friends.  It's such a busy time of year and everyone I know seems to need about 5 more hours in a day.  I'm mostly ready for the holidays, but I have to admit my crafting time has shrunk significantly this week.

Today I had just enough time to create a cute little card based on the card sketch challenge over at Sketch N Scrap.  I just love that they create card and scrapbook sketches.

The adorable chipboard elves and paper are from Jillibean Soup.  I added some Diamond Stickles over a few of the snowflakes, as well as the berries to add a little sparkle and dimension.  All in all, the card only took me a few minutes to make.  Not bad!

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Love the Beach

Good morning crafter!  This month I have the privilege of being a guest designer for Stick It Down.  They have a fabulous sketch challenge this month that you will want to participate in!  Here is my take on it.

I die cut the "L" with my Cricut machine and then inked it up, along with the tag, with Distress Inks.  I then added a bunch of tiny shells to it.  The tag reads, "Sky above our heads Sand beneath our feet Life is Good."  The paper is from Quick Quotes and the bling is from Prima.  The netting stamp around the page is from Kaisercraft.

I created the page for my daughter.  I placed it in a 12 x 12 shadowbox and am going to give it to her for Christmas.  She recently renovated her room to a beach theme and needs a few more things to add to her walls.

Hope you can join us over at Stick It Down. Here is their original sketch:

Have a great day!

Merry and Bright Acetate Ornament

Hello crafters! Today I made a couple of gorgeous acetate ornaments that would be fabulous to give as a gift.  I made two of them so far and I'm definitely keeping one of them!  I love how it has a lot of glitter and sparkle, as well as being able to see through it to the lights on the tree.

I didn't come up with this gem of an idea; I saw it on Pinterest and adapted it to work with the dies I had on hand.  You can go directly to the blog Luvin Stampin to find out how to make this gorgeous ornament.  The artist, Wendy, even has a short set-by-step video to help you create it.  Thanks, Wendy!

Here is the second Christmas ornament I made.  I am going to give it to my sister.  The shaped dies were from Spellbinders, while the Merry and Bright stamp and die are from Holiday Swoosh from PaperTrey Ink.  My bestie, Stacy, bought the set for me and I love them!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Good morning, crafty friends!  Today I have a layout featuring my husband and his friends.  They are hilarious when they get together.  They are also all very good cooks, so we (the wives) love it when they get together, too!

As with most of my masculine pages, I kept this one clean and simple.  I used some ribbon, a metal accent, faux stitching, cardstock, and a couple of stickers.

Hope you have a fabulous week!

Here Comes the Sun

Happy December!  Cold weather always makes me want to scrapbook warm sunny places.  So today I have a pretty double scrapbook layout kit from Quick Quotes.  I just love their vellum quotes.  They have poems and sayings that fit every type of scrapbook layout you could think of. Aren't those tiny paper flip flops adorable?!

These pictures are of our trip to St. Barts a couple of years ago.  There was a lot of wonderful sunshine there.  The fireworks were for Bastille Day. We watched them on a pier overlooking the water.

Hope the sun is shining in your part of the world!

Rocking around the Christmas tree

As November is coming to a close, we are starting to get ready for Christmas.  It seems like the season is already going by so quickly!  Today's layout features some pictures from a couple of years ago.  The kids were rocking out to some Christmas music. I just love these pics!

I used a lovely collection from jellibean soup called Christmas Cheer Chowder to create the layout.  I added some sparkly sequins to a die cut Christmas tree.  I am entering my layout over at the Allsorts challenge blog.

Smile

Good morning!  Today I have a layout that was created with seven other crafters, during a crop.  Each person had to put one thing on a page, then pass it to the next person, until everyone had added something to all the pages.  It was so cool to see how different all the layouts were.

The picture is of my daughter being silly in a tiny pool.  The pool was bought for a game, but she decided it would work as a pool, as well.  The key was cut out using my Cricut machine.

Sketches in Thyme Design Team Member

Good morning, my talented friends!  Today I am bursting with joy and excitement to announce that I am a Sketches in Thyme Design Team Member!

Sketches in Thyme has absolutely gorgeous scrapbook sketches and amazing designers, so I feel very privileged to be part of the team.  Here is my very first layout I created for them:

As you can see, I used my favorite two elements in it - flowers and butterflies!  The photos are of an annual moms and kids' camping trip.  There were a gaggle of boys that came along too, though they are not featured in this layout.  In fact, they stayed as far away from us moms as possible!

And here is this week's fabulous sketch challenge created by Shawn Lahr:

Don't you just love it?  I hope you can join in this week's challenge with us!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Acetate Shaker Card

Good morning crafters!  Today I have a vibrant acetate card to share with you.  I colored the acetate with Tim Holtz Distress Ink first and attached it to a chevron-designed card base. Then I stamped the front of the acetate with brown Staz-on ink.  The tag was precut, so I just added some sequins, adhered thick double-sided foam adhesive, and added some fibers to it. To finish off my card, I added a few flowers with gemstones in the middle and a little sticker that reads, "Another Year Older".

Love

Good morning friends!  Today I have a layout featuring my husband and me during a weekend trip to Napa.  It was a trip full of amazing food and wines.  I'm so thankful to my mother-in-law, who absolutely loves having the kids come down and stay with her.

I sprayed a lot of ink making this layout. I sprayed a doily mask with grey on the background paper.  I also added green ink to the banner along the top, the canvas flowers from Prima, and white doily in the center.  I'm fairly sure I used a sketch for this, but alas I cannot remember which one.  If you recognize it, give me a holler, and I'll edit this to include it.

Happy Friday!  Today's scrapbook layout is of my sassy daughter and her friends.  I am so happy that she has such strong friendships with so many lovely girls.  They have such a great time hanging out together.

I used a darling one page sketch from Sketch 'N-Scrap.  The title says, "She is quick and curious and playful and strong".  The paper and stickers are from Authentique.  The flowers and flair are from Prima.

Sweet

Hello crafters!  Today I have a scrapbook layout featuring my gorgeous nephew.  His dad is in the military, so they arrange for him to be photographed with a flag.  Isn't he the sweetest?!

I used a lovely sketch challenge over at  Granddivas's Scrappy Place for my layout.  Everything I used in my layout were bits and scraps that are quite old, so I was thrilled to use them.  I plan on popping this into a shadowbox and giving it to my sister for her birthday next month.  I think she'll enjoy that

Happy Birthday Acetate card

Happy Sunday!  Today I have a pretty acetate birthday card to share with you.

To create the card, I applied drops of Distress Ink onto the bottom of clear acetate and then sprayed blending solution over them so that the colors would blend together.  The colors remind me of a flower.

Then I turned over the acetate so the ink was facing the cardstock and stamped the butterflies onto the acetate using Staz-On ink.  Lastly, I added a birthday sentiment onto a piece of cardstock and inked around the edges with green and yellow distress ink.  This was a very quick card, as all of these inks dry quickly.

Hope you are having a great day!

Get Well Soon

Good morning crafters!  Today I have a beautiful floral card that is perfect for cheering up someone who isn't feeling well.  As winter is looming ahead of us, I have a feeling I'll need to be making a few more of these.

My favorite part of this card is that I almost everything I used was bits and scraps of leftover projects.
(The exception is the beautiful flower was from Melissa Frances).  I threw this card together with a card sketch from Sketch-N-Scrap.

Enjoy your day!

Law of the Pack

Hello crafty friends!  Today I am playing along with a Creative Scrappers' sketch challenge.  This sketch is perfect for pages where you have a lot of photos to scrap.  Since my son was a cub scout for a few years, I had plenty of photos to choose from.

When my husband saw this layout, he remarked on how young he looked.  He' s already 14 now and starting to look more and more like a man.  I often call him my man child - which he hates, of course.    He's still a really sweet boy and I count myself blessed that he is such an easy teenager so far. (Knock on wood).

Color Run

Today's oh-so-colorful layout is of the Color Run.  This wildly colorful and ultra messy 5k is so much fun for families!  As you walk or run through the course, volunteers throw colored cornstarch at you.  By the end of the race, everyone is walking rainbow.  My son and I have done the Color Run a few times, but this particular time we did it with my dad and his significant other.  After the race, we went to an arcade to eat some pizza and play games.  Boy, did we get a lot of looks!

Joy Peace Love

Today's one-layer cards were a breeze with a few snowflake stamps and one very large sentiment stamp.  These kinds of cards are great for bulk mailings. I kept my cards monotone, using various shades of blue for all the stamps.

These cards are for the 2016 Caring Hearts Drive which go to seniors who are living in nursing homes.  You can still make and send cards to them for the next couple of weeks. Find out the details here.

Creating a marbled background

Hello crafters.  Today I have a new (to me) technique, where I created a my own marbled backgrounds for some Christmas cards.

I got the inspiration from this youtube video and it was soooo easy!  Next time I want to try it on a scrapbook page.  Really all you need is glossy paper, shaving cream from the dollar store, food dye, and a toothpick.  Though I only have three cards shown in the picture above, I actually created twelve backgrounds quite quickly.

I created my Christmas cards for the 2016 Caring Hearts Drive, which benefits seniors living in nursing homes.

Life is an Adventure

Hello crafters! Today's scrapbook layout is of our very first moms and kids camping trip.  There were just three of us moms and sevens kids.  The kids stayed up late every night and had a hard time waking up in the morning.

I used a lot of stamps and ink sprays on my layout.  The title, Life is an Adventure, is created with epoxy stickers.  The Love it! above the picture of my son sleeping, is a piece of washi tape.  I am entering my layout over at Let's Get Sketchy's sketch challenge.

Welcome to Oz

Good morning crafty friends!

This morning I have a scrapbook page of some of my lovely scrapbooking friends, the Design Divas.  The women in this group are so amazing, both with their art and with kindness.  One of my bffs, Stacy, introduce me to them.  They welcomed me into their group even though I live 300 miles away. I've been flying or driving back to Henderson to join them at crops ever since.

One of the crops we like to go to is Scrap Society.  Scrap Society is AWESOME!  It is run by two hilarious women and their children and held at a hotel in Henderson.  They always have a really fun theme with lots of fun games.  If you zoom into the picture on the right, you can see what their three-day crops entail.  They also have one day crops about four times on various Saturdays.

I started my layout off with a fun scrapbook sketch challenge over at Creative Scrappers.  The plaid Scrap Society paper showing in the background was cut down from a place mat at the crop.  The KEEP CALM picture was also give to us at the crop.  The red and white polka strip along the top and bottom is washi tape, while the white hearts and lace design were rub-ons.

Thanks for stopping by today. Have a fantastic day!

Each Snowflake is Unique Just Like You

Hello crafters! Today I have some beautiful winter cards, in very nontraditional winter colors.  It seems like going a nontraditional route is the in thing these days, so I decided to give it a shot.  And I totally LOVE how they came out.  I was inspired by fellow crafter, Kristina Werner.  I love her work.

To create them, I heat embossed the stamped images with white embossing powder and then painted right over the words with Twinkling H20's Shimmering Watercolors.  The watercolor just slides right off the words. Super easy and fun!  I also experimented with adding a little Tea Dye Distress Ink to a few cards to a few cards, as well.  You can see it more in the next picture.

This is what I put on the inside of the cards that have a blank front.  I also sprayed all the cards with Fabric Glitter Spray. I love just grabbing what is around me and using it for various projects. Just because something is meant for one thing, doesn't mean you can't use it for another.  Right?

Beach Boy

Good afternoon, scrappers!  It's rainy and overcast in my neck of the woods, so of course, I scrapped a beach layout of my son.  The photos were of a camping trip in Malibu a couple of years ago.

I used a sketch challenge from Stick It Down as a starting off point.  This Indie Chic collection is from My Mind's Eye.  This older kit came with a ton of different brads and I was able to use a lot of them on my layout.  I also used some large alphabet stamps from Close To My Heart for the title, as well as a few small gear stamps.

One layer Christmas card

Today's one layer cards were super quick and easy.  When I'm mailing cards, I like to try to make the cards nice and flat.

The border of the cards was created with pine branches and pinecones stamps.  I then stamped, "Wishing you a Wonderful Christmas" in the center of the card.  With a half hour and a few supplies, you can mass produce these quickly.  I created these for the 2016 Caring Hearts Card Drive.

Things that go bump in the night

Happy Friday friends!  We have a busy weekend planned starting with a sleepover with five 14-year-old-boys.  I'm sure their will be a run on my cabinet!  My son is an eating machine these days.  Speaking of my son, I have a layout of him today.

I based my layout on a sketch challenge over at Sketch N Scrap.  I printed out the journaling on vellum and attached it to the paper with a creepy store and large moon.  Then I added a few stickers to cover the glue under the adhesive.

Distress Ink Backgrounds

I enjoyed making today's card so much.  I just took a few different Distress Inks and applied the colors all over a sheet of paper to create these fun backgrounds.  I then stamped the large Hero Arts Prism background stamp over it.

The endearing sentiments are from Technique Tuesday's Labels by Ali Edwards.  To make the sentiments and background pop, I mounted both with black card stock.

Live the Live You've Imagined

Good morning, crafty friends!  Today I have layout of the beautiful island of St. Barthélemy. The name of the villa we stayed at for a week was called Via Arc en Ciel which means rainbow.  It was absolutely paradise.

I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks and stencil for the yellow and blue clocks in the background.  The title, "Live the Life you've Imagined" is also by Tim Holtz.  The other two stamps I used were from Kaisercraft (Fishing Net) and Technique Tuesday (Labels by Ali Edwards). The paper is from American Crafts. I am entering my layout in the Stuck?! Sketches and The Paper Girls Challenge.

Today's layout is of my darling children enjoying my birthday gift from my husband.  They don't seem to mind sharing it either.

Living in Southern California sure has its perks, and being able to enjoy my hammock all year long is definitely one of them!

I created my layout using all kinds of bits and bobs from different collections.  It's always nice to use up various craft supplies to make something new.

Pretty Girls

Good morning crafters!  There are lots of pretty girls in my layout for today. The pictures of my daughter pretending she's in jail was taken at Knott's Berry Farm.  The picture of the girls hanging around the table was at our hotel.

To begin my scrapbook layout, I used this month's Scrappy Friends' sketch from Brenda Ragsdale.  I also used a ticket, so I could enter Rochelle's This or That October challenge.  The paper and stickers were from Authentique's Classique Pretty collection.  I believe the play ticket was from Tim Holtz.   The stickers say, "Happy girls are the prettiest" and "Don't let anyone EVER dull your sparkle".

So you want to build a snowman

Good morning crafty friends.  Today's project was inspired over at Pinterest.  I saw this cute, winter game and thought it would be a fun project for my daughter and I to make together.  The great part was that I already had all the supplies on hand.

The only thing we haven't done yet, is create a couple of yarn balls that will be thrown through the holes.

Here she is hamming it up.

The Cat in the Hat

Hello friends!  I have always been a huge reader. I was reading Stephen King in Elementary school (often in my math book which led to phone calls home) and I majored in English Literature so I could read my way through college.  So when my daughter's kindergarten teacher asked me to be the Cat, from Dr. Suess' Cat in the Hat, for reading night at school, I emphatically said, "yes"!

You can see from her smile, that my girl was really happy that mommy was involved in her Reading Night.  Showing my kids how important reading it has paid off over the years; both my kids enjoy reading and do it every night for 20 minutes before bed.  Love it!

For layout inspiration, I used a sketch from Sketches in Thyme.  I used Distress Ink with a stencil and lots of rub-ons to create the background.

Caring Hearts Card Drive

Good morning! Today I have 12 cards that I created for the Caring Hearts Card Drive.  The purpose of this card drive is to collect holiday cards for the elderly that live in nursing homes throughout the US, Canada, And Australia.

To make these cards, I used a fabulous card sketch from Sunday Stamps.  To make the card bases, I used pieces of card stock that I had leftover from scrapbooking.  Card making is a great way to use up your stash.  Why not start the holidays out feeling great by making a few card for this worthy cause?  I did all of these while watching a movie - easy peasy with the Sunday Stamps Sketch!

Have you started making holiday cards yet or does the thought of Christmas cards send you in a panic?

Cheers!

Dream a Little Dream

If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?  What's your dream in life?  That is this month's challenge over at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge.  For those of you that know me, my dream is to live in a warm tropical place, overlooking the ocean.  There is just something about being near the ocean that makes me so happy and content.  Somewhere like Hawaii or the Virgin Islands would be amazing. Hopefully in about ten years, when my husband retires, that will be an option for us.  These photos are of St. Croix, a beautiful island we visited in July for a week.

For added inspiration, I used a scrapbook sketch challenge from Stuck?! Sketches.

What do you dream of doing?  Feel free to share in my comments section.  I'd love to hear about them!

Tinkerbell

Now that's it's October, we are starting to think about Halloween.  So I decided to scrap a couple of pages of my daughter from a couple of years ago, when she was Tinkerbell for Halloween.  I think she looks so cute!!!  This year she is thinking about being a ninja.  We'll see if that sticks.

I used a sketch from over at Sketch-N-Scrap to start my layout off.  Here is the sketch:
