NSD is almost here!

NSD almost here!  There are going to be tons and tons of things to do tomorrow.  I’ve so excited because I am having a layout featured on Sketches! {by tamara}.  (http://sketchesbytamara.blogspot.com)    It is hilarious!  But that all I can say about that :)

Today’s layout is for Nicholas’ school album.  I used a double page sketch from Let’s Scrap.
For some reason, I had a tough time with this one.  I think it was foreshadowing my afternoon chat with Nicholas teacher.  Here's my sketch.

So here's the irony of my making this layout today.  While I was picking Nicholas up from school, his teacher asked to talked to me.  Apparently, another kid was yelling in his ear during P.E., so he punched him in the face.  Sigh.  So not good.  Isn't that ironic?  Try this one.  He is up for another award in two weeks.  I asked her what it was going to be for (we were whispering so he couldn't here) and it's for KINDNESS.  I started laughing so hard.  She did too, thank goodness.

Alright, I promised you some fun websites.   Each one is doing different things so make sure to see what they are doing and when.  Some even have online crops or start today :)

Did you know you were part of a cult?

Seems that I've been hearing that scrapbooking is a cult of sorts by people who don't do it.  In fact, when I took my card class last week, there was a college student there who was observing us.  She was writing her paper on the culture of scrapbooking.  You could have knocked me over.  We had our own culture?  How cool is that?   The word cult doesn't sound so good though...  But then I thought, aren't I always telling people how fantastic it is?  How they should try it?  To come over and I'd help them get started and give them a few things?...  YIKES!  I do sound like a nutjob!  ROTFLMAO.  Okay my sisters in scrapbooking, here's my layout for today...

I just love these pictures of my husband and daughter.  You can really see how much he loves and adores Lara.  Just melts my heart looking at them :)  I used Scrap it with a Song (Once upon a dream) for my inspiration and a sketch from Sketches: Creatively Yours.  I also entered it in My partner in crafting crime anything goes challenge.

Don't forget Saturday is National Scrapbooking Day.  There will be lots of website with giveaways, challenges, and sales all weekend long.  If anyone is interested in some sites that are having some challenges, etc., let me know and I'll post them tomorrow :)

Wild Hair

Alright, that's enough posts about cards.  Here's a layout I started last week for a couple of challenges, but never finished because of our trip to Vegas.  It's a tough life, but someone's got to do it.  The sketch is from Sassy lil sketches and the layout is a part of my BOM I add to on and off.  The paper is a mix of K & Company and Paper Pizazz.

Have a lovely day!  Denise

Thinking of you

This week's challenge at Practical Scrapper's is Buttons.  You can join in the fun here.  How many do you gals have?  I think I have enough to last my lifetime!  There's three on this card.  I also made this flower, using the same technique I described in my post last week.  This flower though is made out of the crepe paper you buy for parties.  I used cinnamon Stickles around the edges.

You make the world better

Hey girls,

Sorry about not posting these last few days.  I was in Vegas!  We just got home and you should see the laundry pile!  Ugh.  We had our first anniversary of all the parents who adopted their daughters with us in China one year ago.  What an awesome weekend it was catching up with everyone.  We are all over the U.S. so this was the first time we had seen most of the families.  What a joy it was to see all the girls.  There were 2 year old running all over the place!  I can't wait to scrapbook those pictures :)  Here's a quick card for you.

Have a great night,

Denise

Mother's Day Cards and an intro to Photoshop Elements

First:  If you're related to me and a mother...don't read this.  Don't want to see your card early do you?

Hey girls,

Last night I took a card class at my local scrapbooking store and created some fabulous cards, including these two Mother's Day cards.   Love when I can learn new techniques while making cards for special occasions.

I just loved learning how to make a fabric flower.  To make it, cut a 12 x2 inch piece of fabric.  Then fold it lengthwise (think hot dog), and sew the two sides together lengthwise again at the end, using a running stitch.  Then pull it tight and knot it up.  Now, if you sew, this is so fast and easy.  I don't.  Not only did I have to ask what a running stitch was, I think I stuck myself, oh say, 12-15 times...  The girls around me were laughing at me.  But it was worth it and I can't wait to buy some fabric and try it again.

I also ran across a great link I wanted to share with you.  Paper Craft Planet just put an Introduction to Photoshop tutorial video on the website.  I know a few friends are thinking about trying out digital scrapbooking, so this might be a good place to start.

Well, that's it for me.  Hope everyone has a great Thursday.  The weekend's just around the corner...

Blessings

I made this layout for a brand new challenge blog,  Scrap it with a Song.  Their first challenge was to take part of the song, "Your Song", by Elton John.  They not only have the lyrics printed out for you, but you can listen to it while you scrapbook.  What a new, fun idea.  You can find their website at   http://scrapitwithasong.blogspot.com/.  Since I didn't have any big black or gray flowers for this, I used a background stamp and inked a big white flower.  The sketch I used was from Pencil Lines.

Hope everyone is having a great day or evening, depending on where your at!

I'm a new Design Team Member for Practical Scrappers!!!

I just couldn't wait to share this with all my friends!!!!  Of all the design teams of all the wonderful blogs out there, I got chosen to be a member of the design team for Practical Scrappers!  My all time FAVORITE Challenge Blog!  I'm so excited, I can hardly sit still!  Sorry for all the !! but this is sooo awesome cool!  Have you seen their challenges?  They rock and their prizes rock.  You can find our (wink, wink) challenges here.  I feel so blessed that they thought I would be a good contributor and that they liked my work :))

Lala

Spring Delights

The kids couldn't wait to peel and eat a decorated Easter egg.  Lara tried skipping the peeling part.  Guess it didn't hold up to the anticipation.  As soon as I turned my back, Lara threw her yolk across the table for the dog to eat.  I managed to get there before Simba did though.

I used all kinds of challenges for this one.  I think I'm still under Pile it on's spell from the blog hop.  Here the all are:
Practical Scrappers - Sketch
Picture Perfect Creations - Color Challenge
Pile it on - Spring
ABC Challenge Blog - Sparkle
Stamp Something - Something Layered
Our Creative Corner - Beautiful Butterflies

I also wanted to share with you gals a funny thing Nicholas said to me this morning.  As we were leaving to take him to school, he lectured Lara not to play with his Big Big Big Loader because it was for kids who are 3 and up and she could get hurt.  Then he looks up at me very earnestly and admonishes me, "You should watch her mom because I'm not going to be here to do it."  Yes, son.

'Twas the Night before Christmas

So I'm a little late on this one.  But did I have fun with it!  What didn't I do to this layout?  Paint, ink, glimmer mist spray on the big flower, bling, more flowers, distressing, die cut, punches, brads, scraps, rick rack, fun fun fun!  It took me well into the night, so I had to wait till this morning to take the picture and put it up for you.  The layout is another sketch from Let's Scrap.  I'm seriously loving that site.  They have the best sketches.  Anyway, here it is.

I've got a couple new links for you girls.

Quick quotes double layout

Hello fellow scrapbook addicts,

Today I am posting a double page layout I made at a quick quotes class.

No time for scrapping today.  My daughter felt left out with everyone getting sick and getting to use the cool machine with air coming out of it.  She was actually happy to be able to use the nebulizer.  Should have seen her run over to the designated spot!  At least I didn't have to make her and that is surely a wonderful blessing.  It's tough finding time to get all three of us on it in the morning and the night.  Busy, Busy.  After this winter, I think our immune systems should be really strong!

Happy Thursday Friends!

Doubly Sweet

I created this layout in 10 short minutes.  (That was all the time I had today).  The paper from prima, is pre-stitched, feels almost like fabric, and is so beautiful all on it own.  I just added four prima flowers, a little journaling, and a picture.  Nice and Easy.  This layout is also for the Spring Blog hop.  This time it is for the Scrap that Poetry.

Have a lovely afternoon.  Hope the sun is shining where you are at :)

You dazzle me

I made this blinged (new word) up card for the Spring Challenge Blog that starts over at Practical Scrappers.  I am submitting it for the following challenges:  Practical Scrappers (bling/glitter), 365 cards (white space), the Cuttlebug Spot (bling), Kelly Jo's Stamp pad (not in the blog hop but I LOVE her color challenge of black, white, and red), and pile it on (no image + at least one other challenge.)  Now that was fun!

Egg Hunt

Continuing on the Practical Scrapper's blog hop, I made a layout using the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays (http://sketchythursdays.blogspot.com/).  I thought this sketch was so pretty and right up my alley with only two pictures on the layout.  I'll also enter it into practical scrapper's challenge as I brushed glue and glitter over the smaller blue flower and added bling on the flags and a couple of letters.  I used some Easter pictures for this layout.  We had some friends down from San Francisco celebrating Easter with us.  You should have seen all the eggs we had hidden between us!  I was finding eggs days later.  Luckily, we only hid the plastic variety.  The kids had so much fun, and the competition was fierce between the boys.

Also, just a quick update that Nicholas was well enough to go to school today!  Hurray.  Lara really appreciated that, I think.

Flowers, bling, and glitter and a practical use for liquid glass

My three favorite things are flowers, bling, and glitter.  Today I made a quick card using my CS scraps to make flowers with my cricut.  Then I stamped an image on four of the flowers with a glue pad and sprinkled microfine glitter all over them.  Last I put some bling in the center.  The top center is the only flower that was pre-made.  This card is for a blog hop I am doing that starts over at Practical Scrappers.  This card will be submitted for Practical Scrappers bling/glitter challenge, the Cuttlebug spot bling/glitter challenge, and Pile It On's no image challenge + one additional challenge.

Before I forget, I also want to share another use for liquid glass.  My girlfriend was complaining that her daughter's fine hair was catching in all hinges of her barrettes.  So I had her bring them over and put a small amount of liquid glass over the hinges.  It looked like the manufacture had done it, and no more hair getting yanked out :)

One Amazing Kid

I love this color combination, featured over at Picture Perfect Creations.  It's perfect for these photos I have of Nicholas.  The sketch is Midnight Madness's weekly sketch (MMSC48).   I used prima's flower centers on the brown flowers.  You should see them close up.  They are fabulous!  If they weren't so darn expensive, I'd use them all the time.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday :)

Reach high for the Stars

I made this layout using a sketch from this week's Let's Scrap weekly sketch and the color challenge at http://colourcreatechallenge.blogspot.com/.  I double layered the ribbons because I loved the sheer prettiness of the flowery ribbon but I didn't want the lines of the papers showing.  So I put a lavender ribbon under it.  Also there is random lavender glitter on the bottom of the page, but it is really hard to capture on film.

I also wanted to say thank you for all the really sweet comments I've been getting.  I read every one and they mean so much to me.  Nicholas is still running about 102.5 fever and is headed back to the doctor this afternoon.  I'm sure they'll be giving him stronger antibiotics.  Poor little guy has bronchitis, sinusitis, and tonsillitis.  Have you ever heard of so many illness at once?  Yep, that's us.  House of plague.  Having asthma really creates havoc on his immune system (and mine!)  As to scraping more than usual, how do you think I stay sane?  I use the two hours of nap time to unwind and get lost in flowers and pretty paper.  I look forward to that time so much.  Except yesterday.  Yesterday was nap day for me too.  Two hours, yippee!!!  I had to wake Nick up after 4 hours.

Well it's Friday.  I hope everyone is feeling great and has a fun and relaxing weekend doing something you love.

The Pumpkin Fairy vs. the Angel

I made this layout for the Practical Scrappers challenge this week which is to use markers.  I used my zig markers to color the pumpkin, mark around the photos, and journal.  The papers are Rusty Pickle and the flowers and leaves are Prima.

Have a great afternoon girls :)

Live from the house of plague

So Nick is on antibiotics for a throat infection but they aren't helping yet.  He actually starting running a low grade fever last night.  His lungs are full of fluid and he has been on his nebulizer for 3 weeks now!  I went to urgent care to get some of my own drugs, but the doctor thought it was viral.  We settled our differences by him writing me a script for antibiotics, but I promised to not fill it unless my throat still was killing me in a few days.  I am soooo ready for summer when Nick is away from school and all those germy kids :)

Here's what our mornings look like:

And no, I did not pick out those pajamas.  Nick throws on whatever he can get to quickest.  Don't want to miss out on any fun, right?

And this was last week's fun.

Poor baby.  On the bright side, my girl hasn't been sick AT ALL!  Hurray!  Look all clear :)

Have a great morning gals :)

Born to shop

Hey all,

Today I made a card to send to my sister.  I used a sketch from OCC Sketch blog.  You can find their blog here.

Not too much going on here.  Nick and I are sick again, sigh...Luckily it's spring break so he's not missing any school.  Have a great rest of the day!

My Sis

I made this page for a sketch challenge at Let's scrap.  You can find it here. I just joined this online community.   The have a TON of double page layouts that you can download, as well as a new one every week.  Lately I've been all about 1 page layouts, so I just took the side I like and scrap that one.  I am also entering it into the color challenge of red at the ABC Challenge blog.  That blog is here.  This page is about my sister, Nicole.  She is such an amazing woman and I just love her to pieces.  My niece and nephew were just shy of one in these pictures.  Aren't they so adorable?

You remind me of the sun

I made this card for a Practical Scrappers sketch challenge.  You can find their site here.  With the exception of the card base, all the paper accents are from my scraps :)

How to make Easel Cards

I've been seeing these Easel cards around quite a bit, and decided I to find out how to make one.  I found a blog site that has great directions.  It is http://jeanette-happythoughtsinkspots.blogspot.com/2009/12/stamp-shoppe-blog-hop.html.  It is just two quick score lines and attaching a piece of paper to your 12x6 inch paper.  Nice and quick.

Their Laughter

I made this layout for a sketch challenge in my Scrap your Stash Yahoo group.  I am guest hosting it so I got to pick the sketch.  It's really fun to think of ways to get the group to use their existing stuff and see what every one comes up with.  The sketch is from an Oct 2008 page map created for Basic Grey.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and if you celebrate it, HAPPY EASTER!

Celebrate 6

Thanks for all the great Birthday wishes!  It was a great day complete with the family singing to me while Nicholas showed off his whoopee cushion...Thanks Auntie Colie.  Well today starts Spring Break so we'll see how much scrapping gets done... so I'll show you the album I made Nicholas shortly before we went to China. Everyone was constantly talking about the adoption and Lara and he was feeling a little displaced.  So I wanted to make him an album that talked about all the wonderful qualities he has.  The acrylic album and papers are from Close to my Heart.  I have a lot of their products as I become a consultant.  Although, the only person I sell to is...myself!  I know, scrapbook shopaholic, party of one, your table is ready.

(He's leading Chris to his Christmas present that's why his eyes are closed)
