Love Smiles Laugh

Here's a picture of my my sweet girl.  I used a quick quotes layout I made at one of their conventions.  Nothing too exciting going on around here.  Nick's still on breathing treatments and we are homebound from pink eye...ewwwwe, I know.  Tomorrow's the big day...35 years old.  Yippee!  I'll have Nick pick a winner after school (I'm really hoping he'll be going tomorrow!).  Hope everyone is healthy, now go wash your hands!  You never know, my kid might have touched that shopping cart...

Happy Easter

Today I made Lara's Easter card.  I decided to do it in the tri-fold shutter card style again. I used the colors for the ColourQ challenge at http://colourq.blogspot.com/.

Simba

This week's challenge at Practical Scrapper's is to use Rub-ons.  Their site is http://www.practicalscrappers.com/.   I used a few love rub ons for Simba's two page layout.  The sketch was last week's sketch at Nuts About Sketches.

I think Simba liked it.

Hope the rest of your day is a good one :)  Denise

Thinking of you

This card is for the Hand Full of Stamps Challenge: You're a Sweet one.  Their link is http:/handfullofstamps.blogspot.com.

Tri Fold Shutter card

Have you seen these cards?  They are simply gorgeous and I have had card envy whenever I see one.  I finally did a google search on how to do one and found a website that has both the written directions, as well as a short, five minute video on how to make them.  Guess what, they are actually EASY to make.  The blog that has the tutorial is http://www.mycreativeexposure.com/2010/03/alright-crafters-here-is-my-video-on.html.  The creator Jayni Masjaski is so talented and has a number of how to's on her blog; including one on how to make your own glimmer mist to save money.  Love it!  Have a look and try it if you haven't made one before.  You'll be impressed on how quickly it's assembled.  I'll post my card next :)

Have a lovely weekend girls,

Denise

Ms. Brightside Award

My friend Jackie sent me this Ms. Brightside Award.  Isn't that just the nicest?  Made my whole day!  Jackie is a mom to four and makes the most beautiful pages.  I try not to enter the same challenges she does, LOL.  I guess with 4 kids, she's had lots and lots of practice!  You can see all her works of art (and they are) at http://mybasketofscraps.blogspot.com.
Once you get this award you are supposed to list 10 things that make you happy, 5 pieces of trivia about yourself, and pass this award on to 5 fellow bloggers. So, here goes...

10 things that make me happy:

1. My Family
2. Weekends (when everyone is home)
3. my children's laughter
4. spending time with friends
5. emails from friends
6. Scrapbooking
7. Lush bath bombs and bubble bars
8. A fun trash novel
9. Sunshine
10. Bright wildflowers

5 Pieces of Trivia about myself:

1. I met my husband in jail 13 years ago.  (We were both working! What were you thinking?)
2. I love pink, but not in clothes.
3. I like pop and alternative, anything with an upbeat, fun mood to it.
4. I am addicted to Taco Bell.  It calls to me.
5. I hate cooking.  I do it, but I'd rather not.  (Are you reading this love of my life?)

Now I'm suppose to send this off to 5 blogging friends.  Feel free to go visit w/ them :)  They are a great group of gals and very creative.

Some bunny loves you

Today I made a quick Easter card for Nicholas' basket while Lara is sleeping and Nicholas is in my bed watching Spongebob.  He's home sick w/ a cold and on breathing treatments for asthma.  He only gets asthma when he's sick, thank goodness.  I have a rule in my house, you don't go to school, you have to take a nap.  Well the treatments amp him up really well so he couldn't fall asleep despite my laying down with him so I let him watch TV.  As least he's not jumping around :)

This card was quick and only used up 1 double sided SEI paper and a scrap piece of white paper.  The sketch I used was from 2sketches4you.

Hope everyone is having a great day.  It's almost Friday....Hurray!

For Keeps

This morning I went to one of our local scrapbooking stores to shop for a scrapbooking basket for a silent auction at Nicholas' school.   Oh, the beautiful paper, bling, etc.  I was in heaven!  But I didn't buy one single thing for me!!!!  Oh the wars in my head!  But I managed for the first time ever to not impulse buy scrapbooking stuff.  Guess my Scrap your Stash group involvement is paying off!  Who hoo!  Okay, I'm crazy busy today, so I got out a page I made at a Quick Quotes convention and just added 3 pictures.  Wa la, page done.

Alright, that's enough browsing.  Go have fun!

Online

This sketch was taken from Pagemaps.  It was also one of the challenges from my yahoo group.  This 12x12 scrapbook looks more like a journal and is make by K & Company.  I love the papers in it!  So girlie :)

Happy New Year Layout

I used a ScrapMaps layout for my Chinese New Year's Layout.  (http://www.scrap-maps.com/sketches/12x12/1/ScrapMaps04_12x12_1p_10.jpg) The sketch made the layout quick and easy.  I also used glimmer mist for the first time on the title letters.  If you've never used it before, a word of warnin; it stains.  When Lara saw my hands she started hyperventilating and saying hurt, hurt.  No, mommy's not hurt.... The colors are a little brighter than tradition New Year's layouts, but it's been such a beautiful week, warm and sunny, that it just fit my mood.

Gotta love this poster no matter your political background

We believe in teaching our children in the importance in political science.  I thought this poster was hilarious so I had Nicholas take a picture under it.  His expression though was all his own ;)

Think you aren't creative enough?

Maybe you're thinking you'd like to scrapbook, but you don't have a creative bone in your body?  Let me tell you, you don't need to!  My little sister has been creative her whole life.  She was playing with stamps, markers, and stickers when she was three.  Honestly.  I liked stickers as a kid, but I never knew what to do with them!  They were pretty but...?  Then I married my husband 11 years ago.  Best decision of my life.  My ex-stepmother (whole other story there, lol) gave me a creative memories album of scrapbook pages from my birth to about age 14.  I thought it was really cool and decided to give it a try.  I was 24/25 by this point.  And STILL not one creative bone or even hair really in my body.  Here's what my first page looked like....

....yes, my seven year old son would have done better...  yes, yes, I know, hilarious...can't breathe?... Bending over yet...I know, I know.... Okay.... get off the floor now, you're embarrassing me.

The point is I am not creative by nature.  I like organization, smooth lines, etc.  It took a lot of scraplifting and classes to figure out how to copy all those irritatingly crafty people.  So don't throw in the towel if your pages don't look like all those designers out there.  Just have fun and learn as you go.  I kinda like my first pages and I can show my kids that if you don't give up and keep practicing at something, you will get better.

Have fun!

Teagan Card (MMSC44) and (CTD83)

Here's my Niece's (and goddaughter's) card.  I had fun playing with another version of the same sketch as Lincoln's card at http://priscillastyles.blogspot.com/ but needed more girlie colors.  I chose the color challenge over at http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/ and went heavier on the pink and turquoise.  This one is definitely not chewer friendly!  Maybe I'll sneak a lollipop her way when mommy's not looking....

Happy 1st Birthday

I made this card for my nephew's 1st birthday.  While I was at it, I used a sketch from http://priscillastyles.blogspot.com/  and a color challenge from http://colourq.blogspot.com.  I had fun making this card for my godson.  It is really colorful and cheerful.  I hope he likes it and the glue I used doesn't taste too bad!  Next one I'm going to make...his twin sister's.

Every child is a unique and unrepeatable miracle

This is a page I made for Lara's lifebook.  The opposite page will have a map of countries on it.  I haven't found one that I can print out that I like yet.  Anyone know any good ones?  To give me additional inspiration I used two challenges.  The sketch and bling challenge was from StuckOnUSketches.  And man did I pile on those rhinestones!  The colors of the layout are the challenge from Picture Picture Creations.  I thought they went together really beautifully and I'd never have thought of the combination.

Well, not too many more lifebook pages to post here.  If you're an adoptive parent and want to see more of them and want to create your own lifebook, I've started the group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/making_a_lifebook_one_page_at_a_time/.  It's just getting on it's feet so you haven't missed a thing.

Have a fantastic day!

Birthday Girl

I started with a kit for this 2 page layout and then added tons of embellishments, ribbons, rub-ons, etc. because it just seemed really plain to me.  This is one I made a couple of months ago.  I've been crazy busy this last week and a half but things are finally slowing down so I can scrapbook more.  Yay!

Remember When

This fun page was a make and take from SEI at a Conference.  The black image and letters are actually iron-ons and can be used on clothes.
